What is “Pay What You Can”?

“Pay What You Can” aka PWYC is an initiative designed to facilitate the adoption of dogs who have been waiting longest in rescue by making the process more financially accessible to more income levels.

Here’s a step-by-step overview of how the program typically works:

See below for the for dogs listed under the “Pay What You Can” program! If you’re on our mainĀ  adoptable dogs list you can search for PWYC dogs. These dogs have been dogs waiting in foster care for adoption for the longest.

If you find a dog that you are interested in adopting, you begin the adoption process by filling out the application form. You will then be contacted and go through a screening process to ensure that you are a suitable adopter and can provide a loving home for the dog. Regular application processing fee applies.

Once you have completed the screening process, you have the opportunity to make an offer on the adoption fee. This is where the “Pay What You Can” aspect comes into play. You can propose an adoption fee that aligns with what you can afford.

After you submit your offer, the board of directors and the team will review it. The board and team will decide whether to approve or negotiate your offer. If they believe your offer is too low, they may counter with a more suitable amount. The aim is to find a middle ground that is fair both to the adopter and the organization.

It’s important to note that, while we aim to make adoption affordable for lower-income households, we still rely on adoption fees to cover operational costs. This includes the expenses associated with the care of the dogs such as vetting and transportation. Therefore extremely low offers may be declined, but we are open to negotiation and finding a mutually agreeable adoption fee.

This initiative reflects a commitment to finding loving homes for dogs while considering the financial circumstances of potential adopters and maintaining the financial sustainability of the organization. No dog is placed in a homeĀ  unless we feel the home is 100% committed to the dog’s well being.

If you have any further questions please contact us directly.

We are foster-based, which means we do not have a physical shelter.

Please check if you are in our adoption radius before applying.

Due to the lack of history on our dogs, we can not place them in homes with children under 12 years of age.

We do not have a contact phone number as we are not a 9 to 5 shelter.

We reserve the right not to respond to applications that do not meet our adoption criteria.

We get a high volume of correspondences, please be patient!

Harassment or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.
