ABOUT US

WE ARE A FOSTER-BASED, SHELTER FREE RESCUE

Redemption Paws is a Canadian federally registered charity that helps dogs who are affected by natural disasters, climate change, the canine overpopulation crisis, and other dire circumstances find their forever homes.

We are a foster-based organization that works with veterinarians and trainers in the community to provide these dogs with a loving and supportive environment while they await their adoptions!

Our incredible team of volunteers and staff works tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate everything from finding foster homes, to scheduling vet appointments and procedures, to screening countless adoption applications before the perfect match is made through our process.

Founded off the back of the aftermath caused by Hurricane Harvey, Redemption Paws has rescued  and rehomed over 2000 dogs since starting our missions in September 2017.

OUR TEAM

Nicole Simone

Chief Executive Officer & Founder

Nicole Simone started volunteering in 2006 as the only special needs rescue coordinator for a local municipal pound in Aurora, Ontario. In her time there, Simone was exposed to challenges facing homeless dogs and the people who rescue them. In her first two years, Simone visited the shelter almost every day and helped send 200 dogs to homes or rescue. Through “Unchain Ontario’s Dogs”, Simone advocated local towns to adopt anti-tethering bylaws and educated the community about local animal abuse.

In 2013, Simone started the critically acclaimed photo series Redemption Dogs. Simone met and photographed over 1000 people and rescue dogs from Toronto, Montreal, and New York City, interviewing them on the impact rescue dogs have on human life.

In August 2017, Simone unexpectedly found herself receiving distress calls from dog rescues in Houston, Texas. On September 1, 2017, Simone founded Redemption Paws.

Simone has a special interest in dogs living with medical or physical impairments, senior animals, as well as a special fondness for Australian Cattle Dogs.

Outside of Redemption Paws, Simone is an accomplished singer-songwriter performing under the name Late July. She holds her BA in Sociology and Diploma in Liberal Arts.

Simone grew up between California and Ontario. She enjoys record collecting and old movies. She lives between Toronto and Los Angeles with her rescue dog Indie.

WHY WE’RE DIFFERENT

What makes Redemptions Paws different
from other rescues?

  • we are the only rescue organization in Canada that specializes in helping dogs impacted by natural disasters and climate change
  • we help ALL dogs, regardless of breed, age, or gender; mutts are limited editions and we love them
  • no dogs are hopeless, we have a special affinity for dogs with medical and physical needs, with a particular adoration for dogs who have visual and hearing impairments
  • we are very familiar with the treatment of heartworm disease, and feel that heartworm-positive dogs deserve an equal chance at love and happiness! Since 2017 we have successfully treated over 100 heartworm-positive dogs!
  • we support local businesses; our behavioural specialists, boarding, and trainers are paid for their time to prepare our dogs for their lives
  • we do our own transports; we personally try to make the dogs trip as calm and pleasant as possible in temperature-controlled vans
  • all our dogs see a vet before leaving their destination and after arriving in Canada; we take no risks when it comes to health
  • when we’re not needed at a disaster site, we help local dogs here in Canada and keep helping dogs that have been displaced, regardless of where they are from

We reserve the right not to respond to applications that do not meet our adoption criteria.
